Exciting! Neuroscience breakthroughs during the last decades prove your brain can change! The human brain is all but static as was previously thought. No, it is flexible, malleable and changes from nanosecond to nanosecond. These discoveries hold the promise of longer, healthier, and more productive lives. Even raising our intelligence and changing our DNA are possibilities. There is much more to be revealed by the literally exploding research field which is called neuroplasticity.
Without maybe boring you with further details about the intricacies of neuroplasticity, I would like to share how you can cash in on it. YOU hold the key to increasing and improving your brainpower! The essence of this is that every thought you have on a conscious or subconscious level, reflects the well-being of your brain. YOU can sculpt your brain with your thoughts, for better or for worse. It is a matter of THINK well and BE well. You are ultimately what you think!
Thinking is undoubtedly the most important thing we do. It is the catapult for every feeling we experience, every decision we make and every action we take. They reflect our deep subconscious core beliefs about ourselves, others, and the environment as well as the rules and assumptions we live by. These originate from childhood and need to be investigated to determine whether they work for- or against us.
Because we can think, unfortunately does not mean that we always think in appropriate ways. Many of our problems are the result of faulty thinking. We can surely think ourselves into difficulties such as turning small challenges into catastrophies, being over-critical of ourselves or seeing ourselves as victims. If we however learn healthy thinking habits, we can certainly think ourselves out of problems and discover sparkling solutions!
You might ask why we fall into the trap of destructive thinking? The reason for this is that most of us have not been deliberately taught how to acquire effective thinking skills in our education or elsewhere. An example is that the acquisition of Creative Thinking and Creative Problem-Solving are neglected in school curricula. This is concerning as these are our most crucial adaptability skills for the future.
I subsequently developed a concept, thinkingfit. This means that we must all explore and identify our thinking patterns and habits. We need to keep what is constructive and discard what doesn’t serve us well. This is the same process as we would follow in a gym to make our bodies healthy, slim, and trim. This is of course hard work but what a joy when we look into a mirror and relish our progress! This happens with breakthroughs in our thinking too!
